About 'caffeine help weight loss'|Effect of Caffeine on your Weight








               Oregon               State               Professor               Melinda               Manore               has               been               studying               weight               loss               supplements               for               several               years               and               has               come               to               the               conclusion               that               none               of               them               actually               help               people               lose               weight               and               some               of               them               are               harmful.

She               has               published               the               results               of               her               research               in               the               International               Journal               of               Sport               Nutrition               and               Exercise               Metabolism.

Science               Daily               backs               up               Manore's               claims               by               noting               that               no               existing               studies               have               ever               found               a               single               dietary               supplement               to               be               effective               in               helping               people               lose               weight.

CBC               News               goes               even               farther               in               saying               that               dietary               supplements               are               a               flat               out               waste               of               money.
               To               come               to               her               conclusions,               Manore               has               compiled               a               list               of               every               study               conducted               over               the               past               twenty               five               years               pertaining               to               specific               weight               loss               supplements.

She               writes               that               virtually               every               study               done               on               individual               types               of               weight               loss               supplements               has               shown               them               to               be               ineffective.

Conversely,               she               adds,               not               one               single               study               conducted               in               the               United               State               or               Europe               has               found               any               dietary               supplement               to               be               effective               in               helping               people               lose               weight.
               She               does               acknowledge               that               a               few               types               of               green               tea               have               been               shown               to               help               in               losing               weight,               but               they               are               not               considered               to               be               weight               loss               supplements.

She               also               points               out               that               virtually               all               of               the               weight               loss               supplements               currently               on               the               market               advise               customers               to               combine               weight               loss               supplements               with               dietary               restrictions               and/or               an               exercise               regimen,               which               of               course               is               just               as               effective               whether               they               take               the               supplements               or               not.

She               also               points               out               that               supplements               that               claim               to               give               results               using               caffeine               to               speed               up               the               metabolism               are               just               as               ineffective               as               any               of               the               other               supplements               studied               and               that               drinking               caffeinated               coffee               has               been               shown               to               be               just               as               ineffective               as               dietary               supplements.
               Manore               writes               that               the               only               proven               weight               loss               supplement               is               a               diet               regimen               lower               in               calories               combined               with               regular               exercise.

She               also               points               out               that               eating               fruits               and               vegetables               has               been               shown               to               help               in               weight               loss               due               to               their               filling               the               stomach               which               leaves               less               room               for               more               fattening               foods.
               Manore               is               a               professor               of               nutrition               and               exercise               sciences               at               OSU               and               serves               on               the               Science               Board               for               the               President's               Council               on               Fitness,               Sports               and               Nutrition.
               Professor               Manore               also               notes               that               in               studying               the               results               of               research               efforts               looking               into               the               benefits               of               dietary               supplements               she               came               across               many               cases               of               negative               side               effects.

Some               were               minor               such               as               bloating               or               increased               need               to               pass               gas,               others               however,               were               much               more               serious               problems               such               as               strokes               and               heart               problems.

She               suggests               people               stop               taking               supplements               immediately               and               instead               start               exercising.
